UHCL accepted the Texas Council for Exceptional Children's Chapter Excellence Award at the group's annual conference held June 28 to June 30. Chapter 1148 received the award in recognition of its event leadership, such as the annual Take-A-Buddy-to-the-Fair festivities.
The event helps students with special needs and promotes social and motor skill development. More than 300 students and 60 volunteers participated in the 2012 fair.
The group was also recognized for its participation and assistance with other area student organizations. Chapter 1148 has participated in a number of community events, including various fund raisers and charity walks.
Members Dawn Rodriguez, Christine Beck, Tracy McKinley and Sarah Dudley accepted the award on behalf of Chapter 1148.
The Council for Exceptional Children aims to support professionals that devote time to the education of students with special needs. It is the largest international professional organization of its kind.
