Haak Vineyards and Winery welcomes new assistant winemaker
Raymond Haak of Haak Vineyards and Winery has chosen Marta Sanchez Lastowska as his assistant winemaker.
Lastowska was raised in Spain in a strongly wine-influenced culture. She attended Rovira I Virgili University in Tarragona, Spain, where she completed her enology degree. Before Rovira, Lastowska received a bachelor's degree in food and science from Autonomous University in Madrid.
"We are thrilled to have Marta on board," said owner Raymond Haak. "She brings much knowledge and expertise, and we look forward to seeing all that she has in store for the Haak Winery."
She has worked in New Mexico and North Carolina, where she operated a mobile wine laboratory. With great interest in soil-tending, blending and tasting, Lastowska strives to produce the best quality wine attainable from the harvest.
"Wine is alive," said Lastowska, who has a firm belief in the future of Texas wines. "It changes with time, so it should be treated as a living thing. There is a lot of work, science and art behind each bottle."
