Terri Bruce will be the new principal at Westwood-Bales Elementary School at the start of the school year.

Terri Bruce will begin the school year as the new principal at Westwood-Bales Elementary School in the Friendswood Independent School District.

Bruce previously taught one year at Westwood and was on staff when Bales originally opened its new campus. She took over the principal position in July and looks forward to her first opening school day in charge at Westwood-Bales, according to press release from the school district.

With 23 year of educational experience, Bruce has taught in the Goose Creek ISD, the Alvin ISD and spent seven years in the Friendswood ISD.

"My knowledge and understanding of how a PreK-5 campus should run will be very beneficial," Bruce said in the release. "I had the privilege of opening Wilder Elementary. I hired each teacher and staff member in that building. We created a positive learning environment where students are always first!"

Bruce was named a Distinguished Administrator by the Texas Music Educators Association while a principal in the Alvin Independent School District, according to the release.

"I am a passionate educator," Bruce said. "I believe that education is my life's work. I will make decisions based on what is most needed for the students of Westwood-Bales."

Located at 506 Edgewood, the school year at Westwood-Bales begins Monday, Aug. 27.
